Angkor Wat

Looking at the moat and outer wall of Angkor Wat.

Angkor Wat is the largest and most famous of the temples.  Its moat and outer wall inscribes perhaps four square miles.  Inside the wall, the grounds are spacious and give way to forests of tall virgin teak and fig trees at each side.  The temple complex consists of huge concentric sandstone corridors and rooms rising to increasing elevations towards the center.  The central temple has four ornate towers rising above the elevated corridors and terraces..  Not only are there miles of stone walls and buildings, nearly every surface is carved, depicting figures and stories of real and mythological happenings.

I have depicted only a few of the temples we visited. We saw others, and each was unique.  The enormity and the beauty of these edifices, built by an ancient Khmer civilization, made them one of the seven wonders of the world.
